Ricci was the eldest of four kids born to Sarah Murdoch and Ralph Ricci in Santa Monica, California. Her mother, former Ford Agency actress in the 1960s who later turned into an agent for real estate. She was the daughter of a lawyer, the drug counselor, primal scream therapist, and a gym teacher. Ricci said she believed that her Italian family heritage is the consequence of her surname that she carries. A few generations back the Italian couple tied the knot with a Irish woman. All their sons were born. They were married by more Irish wives and had more children. Nowadays, I'm essentially Scots Irish" Ricci's family relocated from Italy and moved to Montclair, New Jersey. Ricci enrolled at Montclair High School. Later, she attended Professional Children's School in New York City.
