The early achievements of Maureen FitzSimons in the performing arts, which we now know as Maureen O'Hara, would certainly be a qualifier to be in being in the "child prodigy" category. For a young Irish girl surrounded with gifted parents and extended family, these traits came as a natural. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin in Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer team in Ireland and ran a Dublin business. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons made up this beautiful family. Maureen loved playing rough athletic games as a child and excelled at sports. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural aptitude for performing. Her winning of almost all the Feis awards for her native nation's theatre and drama proved the fact that she was a natural performer. At the age of 14 she enrolled in at the Abbey Theater to follow her goal of studying classical theatre and operatic vocals.
